Stansted Inquiry Begins

A public inquiry into British Airport Authority (BAA) plans for expansion of the capacity of the existing runway at Stansted Airport in Essex is due to start today. BAA wants to increase passenger numbers from 25m to 35m a year. Stop Stansted Expansion is campaigning against proposals to expand the airport.

This inquiry will be a rehearsal of the arguments from both sides of the divide for later inquiries into additional runways both at Stansted Airport and at Heathrow Airport.

Suspension of Runaway Alternation 11-18 June

BAA Heathrow have informed the Longford Residents' Association that due to essential works on one of the Instrument Landing Systems (ILS) at Heathrow, they will be suspending runway alternation between 11-18 June. The ILS for the southern runway, when the airport is on westerly operations, will be taken out of ervice for one week. This means that the vast majority of arrivals will have to use the northern runway during this time. Consequently, the majority of departures will be from the southern runway.
